How much weight you lose so far:
50 pounds! I really feel like my body has transformed and I am very happy with where I am now. It’s still early, but after losing 50 pounds and 20% of my body fat, I can see that significant changes have occurred. In addition to helping me get in better shape, weight loss has also helped improve my self-confidence.

How did you get started:
While I had made some positive changes, they didn’t seem sustainable. So I set a goal of losing 50 pounds by my 30th birthday (2022) and then reach and maintain that same weight for two years.
It might seem like a short time frame, but if you lose five pounds per month, you’ll be 10% lighter in a year, which was realistic for me at that point. In May 2018 I hit my 50-pound mark so now it’s time to see what it feels like to stay at that weight or even reduce further.
What was your biggest obstacle:
The most difficult part about losing weight for me was simply staying on track. I would do great one day, and then have a big blowout on my birthday or during a week where I had too much going on at work. That pattern repeated itself until it got to be an every week thing. That’s when it really hit me that I had a problem, and needed help.
In hindsight, all those setbacks were just opportunities to learn more about myself and what motivates me, which I now use as my cheat codes! What’s your secret: Keeping healthy snacks nearby at all times has been critical for me.
There are many ways you can lose weight, but what’s right for one person may not be right for another. If you want to shed some pounds and keep them off, it’s important that you tailor your diet and workout plan according to your goals. If a friend or loved one wants to lose weight, ask them how they feel about exercise and what types of foods they like (and don’t like).
Pay attention when they eat so you can emulate their behavior at mealtime. Always encourage them—and yourself—to try new things, too. Maybe a smoothie could become a breakfast staple or going out with friends is more fun when done on foot rather than by car or train. You never know until you try!

If you’re just starting out, or thinking about losing weight, here’s a quick test to see if it’s something you can stick with. Pick up an item that represents your old lifestyle—your favorite chocolate bar, an extra-large tub of movie popcorn, a pair of jeans that used to fit but now feel tight.
Hold it for two minutes and try not to let your thoughts stray towards how good it would be right now—how delicious and satisfying it would taste when unwrapped. Be honest with yourself and question whether or not you could resist temptation if faced with these things on a regular basis. If your answer is no, then changing your eating habits isn’t likely something you can do long-term.
